Light-based skin rejuvenation to improve tone and texture.
About this treatment
Photorejuvenation uses intense pulsed light to target brown pigment and visible red vessels while supporting collagen renewal. It can be considered for sun and age spots, redness, small visible vessels, uneven tone and early lines, with settings and treatment frequency based on your skin and the concern being treated.
IPL sends precise pulses of light into the skin. Brown pigment and red vessels absorb the energy, while the treatment also supports collagen production for gradual improvement in texture and fine lines.
Pigmented spots can initially look darker before fading, and temporary redness or swelling can occur. Sun avoidance, sunscreen and the timing of other products are part of the treatment plan.
IPL is not a single-wavelength laser. It uses a range of light that can be filtered for selected brown pigment and visible red vessels, so skin tone, the colour of the target and recent sun exposure all affect the treatment settings.
A Registered Nurse identifies which spots and vessels are appropriate to treat and which should be assessed another way. Photographs and a consistent sun-protection routine can help the clinic compare gradual changes across a treatment plan.
Photorejuvenation with intense pulsed light is discussed for selected concerns such as visible redness and uneven pigmentation. These concerns may look similar in a photograph but need different assessments. Tell us what changes with sun exposure and what you would most like to improve.
Bring up recent tanning, skin sensitivity, previous laser or light treatment and current medicines. Ask which concern the proposed settings address, what temporary changes to expect, and how the plan fits around sun exposure and your daily routine.
Common questions
Photorejuvenation with IPL may be discussed for selected pigment changes, redness and small visible vessels. Those concerns have different causes, so assessment comes before choosing settings or a series. Tell us which changes you notice, how long they have been present and whether any spot is evolving; an unexplained changing lesion needs assessment rather than being assumed to be ordinary sun damage.
The clinic describes IPL as a brief flick or snap with warmth, although sensation depends on the area and settings. Tell us about your sensitivity and previous light-treatment experiences before the session. Ask how discomfort is monitored and what you should report during treatment, rather than assuming you need to tolerate a sensation that concerns you.
Temporary redness or swelling can occur, and treated pigment may look darker before it fades. Discuss the area being treated and any upcoming events so recovery expectations are realistic. Ask when makeup, exercise and active skincare can resume, and how to contact the clinic if a reaction is stronger or lasts longer than the course described for you.
A series may be discussed, but the number of visits depends on the concern, your skin and how it responds. Ask what change would indicate progress and when the plan would be reviewed. It is also useful to discuss ongoing sun protection and maintenance before booking, since treating existing pigment or redness does not prevent every future skin change.
IPL delivers filtered light across a range of wavelengths, whereas a laser uses a more specific wavelength. The practical question is why a particular device suits the target and your skin. Ask how skin tone, recent tanning and the concern being treated influence the recommendation instead of choosing solely by whether a treatment is called laser or IPL.
Pigmented spots can temporarily darken as they respond to treatment and then gradually shed or fade. Do not pick at the area or add strong exfoliants to try to accelerate the process. Ask what appearance is expected for your plan and what should be reported; blistering, increasing pain or another worrying change deserves contact with the clinic rather than self-diagnosis from a photograph.
