About this treatment

Start with a medical assessment of the skin growth.

Moles, skin tags and seborrheic keratoses are common, but they should be identified before removal is planned. Dr. McDonald assesses the type, size, location and appearance of the growth, then explains whether removal at the clinic is appropriate and which clinical method may be used.

Laser Aesthetics assesses common growths including suitable benign moles, skin tags, warts and seborrheic keratoses. Identification comes before removal because growths that look similar can require different care.

Dr. McDonald performs the clinic's removal procedures and selects the method after examining the growth. The current clinic information does not offer removal of facial moles, and some concerns may need referral instead.

Assessment comes before removal.

A skin tag, mole, wart and seborrheic keratosis can look similar to an untrained eye but may need different treatment. The clinician examines the growth and asks about change, irritation, bleeding and previous diagnosis before discussing removal.

Cosmetic removal is not the right next step for every lesion. If the appearance or history raises a concern, assessment or referral takes priority over speed, and the clinic explains why a procedure may not be offered.

Assessment comes before cosmetic removal.

A raised spot is not always a skin tag, and an unwanted mole should not automatically be treated as cosmetic. Tell a healthcare professional if a lesion is new, changing, bleeding or itching. Assessment helps determine whether removal, further investigation or referral is appropriate.

For a lesion confirmed as suitable for cosmetic care, ask about the proposed method, the possibility of a mark or scar, and wound care. Explain if clothing, shaving or jewellery regularly irritates the area, and describe any previous attempt to remove it.

Common questions

Which skin growths can be assessed?

The clinic assesses suitable moles, skin tags, warts and seborrheic keratoses before deciding whether removal is appropriate. A growth should be identified rather than assumed harmless from its appearance online. Tell us where it is, how long it has been present and whether it has changed so the appointment can address diagnosis and suitability before discussing a cosmetic result.

Who performs the removal?

The clinic’s physician assesses growths and performs the removal procedures offered here. Ask what the assessment involves and whether your particular lesion can be managed at the clinic before booking treatment. The decision may include further investigation or referral, and you should understand the proposed method, likely scar and aftercare before agreeing to removal.

Does the clinic remove facial moles?

No. Laser Aesthetics does not offer facial mole removal. If that is your concern, explain the location when contacting the clinic so you can avoid booking an unsuitable procedure. A changing or symptomatic facial lesion still deserves medical assessment; not offering its cosmetic removal does not mean it should be ignored or treated at home.

Why should I avoid removing a growth myself?

Home removal can cause bleeding, infection or scarring and can delay recognition of a concerning lesion. Products marketed for skin tags do not establish what a growth actually is. Arrange an assessment first, especially if it is new or changing, and bring details of anything already applied or attempted so the clinician understands the full history.

Can every skin growth be removed at the first visit?

No. Identification and assessment come first, and some lesions require another investigation or referral. Ask whether the first appointment is an assessment, a procedure or potentially both, and clarify costs and timing. If removal is proposed, discuss scar expectations and aftercare before proceeding rather than assuming a small growth means an uncomplicated same-day cosmetic treatment.

What changes should I mention during assessment?

Mention changes in size, shape, colour or border, along with bleeding, crusting, itching or pain. Explain repeated irritation from clothing and any prior treatment or diagnosis. Photographs showing change over time may help you describe the history, but they do not replace examination; seek assessment promptly for a concerning change rather than waiting for a cosmetic appointment.

Recommendations are informational. A clinical consultation is required to confirm suitability, risks and expected results.
